Students at HGAED celebrated remarkable achievements in the 2011 GCSE and A level results.

66 per cent of Year 11 students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Maths, compared to 49% last year – well above the national average (54%).

The total percentage of students achieving 5 or more grades A*-C grades also rose to 96%.

Successes across the board including Astronomy, Business Studies, Chinese, Dutch, Geography, History and Statistics, as well as the essential core subjects of English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

‘These are excellent results, a huge increase on last year,’ said Chris Brown, Head of English. ‘It took lots of hard work. I’m really delighted by how well the students have done.’

Top results were recorded by Jessica Hoang, who achieved 4 A*s and 11As among her 18 GCSEs.

A level success

Our 2011 A level results were also impressive for the second year in a row. 93 per cent of students achieved grades A-C, compared to 89% last year.

The average grade was between A and B with nearly 62% of passes being at A grade or equivalent. Almost three quarters of exams taken were passed with either A or B grades or equivalent.

‘These results speak for themselves,’ said Head of Post 16 Chris Everitt. ‘Our students will now be embarking on university courses of their choice on the strength of these results.’
