Parents
Students thrive best when a school works closely with the parents. We welcome partnerships with parents and work hard to make them a success.
Here are just some of the ways you can keep in touch with your child's progress and contact teachers whenever you have a question or concern.
Parent partnership
We have regular consultation meetings with parents.
Read the notes from the Parent Consultation Lunch on Wednesday 1 February.
Read the notes from the Parent Consultation Lunch on 9 December 2011. One of the topics discussed was how sex and relationships education is taught across the curriculum.
Planners
Every student has a planner. This records, for example, homework tasks that have been set. Teachers also write comments in the planner and parents are encouraged to do the same.
Emails and phone calls
Every student is part of a small coaching group (similar to a tutor group), with a named coach. The coach is the parents first point of contact with the school. Every parents is given the email address and telephone number of their child's coach at the start of the year.
E-portal
You can access information about your child’s attendance, timetable and academic progress, for example, via a secure and confidential internet link called the HGAED ePortal. A unique username and password will be given to you at the start of the year.
Academic mentoring days
These are similar to parents evenings, except that students take the lead in presenting their work and explaining what they have achieved. Academic Mentoring Days help students develop a precise understanding of their skills, their current attainment and reflect on what they need to do to progress.
Coffee mornings with the Principal
Parents are welcome to drop in to see Jane Fletcher, Principal, at an informal coffee morning on the last Friday of each month during term time, 9.30-10.30am. This is a chance for an informal chat about any aspect of school life.
